Is it possible to be allergic to sunscreen?

I've never had a problem with it before, but now I break out in hives! My skin has become more sensitive in the last few years, even certain laundry detergents irritate my skin. Can I be allergic to sunscreen? And what can I use as a substitute (my skin is very fair and burns easily?
